Elected to the Board of Aldermen to represent the residents of Ward 30.

 

City of New Haven, Mayor’s Office                                                                   

Legislative Assistant to the Mayor                            

Oversaw local and state government relations. Served as the chief city administration’s liaison with the 30-member Board of Aldermen. Coordinated meetings between the Mayor of New Haven and the leadership of the Board of Aldermen (BOA). Monitored all Board of Aldermen committee meetings and public hearings, represented the administration at such meetings, and guided all city legislation through the BOA. Also developed contact database for the Mayor’s office and constituent workers.

General Law Committee

Special Committee on Housing

Managed activities of the legislative committee, including scheduling meeting and hearings, coordinating schedules of the Chairs, keeping vote tallies and minutes, as well as posting committee information to the public. Highlights of legislative career include the successful adoption of Rental Assistance Program (RAP) through the Housing Committee, which is similar to the federal Section 8 program. This legislation eliminated the welfare motel subsidy program, and saved Connecticut millions of dollars per year. Also, while with the General Law Committee, legislation was adopted which put restraints on the amount of money Rent-to-Own and check cashing companies could charge for products.

Provided constituent services residents of Greater New Haven for Congressman Bruce A. Morrison in the Third Congressional District in Connecticut. Also served as the Liaison to the African American community.
